Weekend Wrap-Up

Saturday:
I know it’s a little twisted, but I love getting up early and having a leisurely cup of coffee before my long run.

I paced my Fleet Feet CMM group.  Corrie and I ran 3 miles before, 17 miles with the group, and 2 miles after.  It was 26 degrees and ended in the 40’s…perfect!!

Afterwards, I inhaled a bowl of steel cut oatmeal.

Legs up with a knee sleeve and two calf sleeves.  Compression and gravity are my friends.

My Boston Marathon packet arrived in the afternoon…the best post-long run reward!!!

Even though I was worn out, we stayed up to watch KY just barely beat Notre Dame!

It was SO stressful!

Sunday: Palm Sunday

I really wanted to sleep in, but I got my tired butt out of the bed and into the gym for a recovery run.

It was a beautiful day, so we took the pups for an afternoon walk.  Those puppy butts and tails make me so happy!
And, I wore my Choose Joy bracelet that Corrie gave me! (Caroline photobomb!)

Our first outdoor fire of the year.

It was a lovely day and I was sad for it to end.

Monday:

Monday Morning Miles.  Never miss a Monday!

A few weeks ago I won 3rd place in the #MilesForRunnerMarx contest.  My prize, this rad hat, arrived!!

Has anyone tried Kalettes?!!
IMG_7323
If brussels sprouts and kale had a baby, it would be kalettes.  I roasted them for dinner…so good!  (That sounded like I roasted a baby.  You know what I meant.)

What’s your next race?  How far away is it?  Are you ready? Boston is 3 weeks away…crazy!
Do you like early mornings?
Would you try Kalettes?  Jason doesn’t like kale, but he loved these.
What did you have for dinner last night?  We had seared tofu, lemon-parmesan asparagus, and roasted kalettes.

  1. Way to get after it Jen even when you tired from the prior nights events. I’m proud of you! Love those Kentucky meme’s haha! I don’t necessarily care for mornings but I tolerate them lol. But I’m not a night owl either

  2. I am five weeks out from my next race. I can’t believe how quickly it is coming!

I like to have time to relax in the mornings, but it doesn’t happen very often since I have to be at work so early.

I can’t believe you ran 9 miles the day after a 22 miler! Way to go!

  3. What a happy post! I love how your recovery run is 9 MILES! That would be my loooong run. 🙂 Also, your outdoor fireplace is gorgeous. I can’t wait for outdoor fire weather… it’s still a little too chilly for that in PA but hopefully in another week or two it will be time.

I would definitely try kalettes but I don’t think that I’ve ever seen them before. Last night for dinner I had a BBQ pulled pork sandwich with potato salad and chocolate chip cookies for dessert… dinner of champions, for sure. 😉

  4. Wow, your house is so beautiful! I would love to have an outdoor fireplace like that. Looks so nice and relaxing 🙂
My next race is actually on Saturday, but it’s just a training race for my goal race in June!
Kalettes look very interesting! I haven’t heard of them or seen then, but if I do I’ll definitely have to pick them up 🙂
Last night I made salmon with a rice salad. It was so good!

  5. I do not like early mornings! But that may have to do with the fact we go to bed too late :)….unless you consider 7:30 an early morning :). I watched that game..ugh! That was close!!!! These games have been SO good!!!
Where did you find kalettes? I would love to try them!!!
I am running a half on Sat and I think I am as ready as I can be for this time in the season…I am a little worried about a large hill at mile 10.5 though :/

  6. I have a coffee cup that says “I don’t like morning people. Or mornings. Or people.” Actually, I just don’t like them all at the same time. I like to be up by myself early in the morning, with a cup of coffee and some quiet.

Glad you had such a great running weekend!

  7. I LOVE early mornings. It makes me feel productive for the rest of the day!

I would absolutely try those Kalette things….I love kale. and brussel sprouts. And all things green and healthy.

  8. I don’t exactly like the lack of sleep that comes with early mornings but I DO enjoy the peace and quiet! So many frigging kids around here. I notice that I’m irritable if I wake up at the same time as everyone else because it feels like I’m already behind and trying to catch up. Worst feeling ever at 6:30am. Booo.

  9. There is just something about sitting outdoors on a warm Sunday evening that just makes everything seem right with the world! So glad you got to use your awesome fireplace.

I am with you on the early mornings. I like to wake up extra early to enjoy my coffee before rushing out the door for a run, work, etc.

  10. WHAT?!? Kalettes? I’ve got to find some of these! Well, my next race is on Saturday; it’s a 10K with my local running group. You definitely know that I’m a morning person and last night, for dinner, we had the Mini Salmon Cakes from the Runner’s World Cookbook; so tasty! Hope you’re having a great day, Jen!

  11. Kalettes?? I haven’t heard of them til now but they sound wonderful! I’ll have to look next time I’m at the grocery store. Did you get them at a regular grocery store or a specialty one?
