For those of you that subscribe to my blog via email, I’m so sorry I accidentally posted a draft!! I was loading notes and clicked post. Oops. It was bound to happen. Here’s the finished post:
Saturday:
It was my first real long run since Boston and CMM. I joined the Run 4 Others group for 12 miles. It was also the first hot and humid run of the year.
I went over to Juice Bar for a much needed green smoothie afterwards.
Then I had more fruit and some breakfast quinoa when we got home.
We cleaned up and Jason and I headed to Kentucky to spend the day with his family.
Sunday:
Mother’s Day is always tough for me. I haven’t seen or spoken to my mom in years due to her addiction problems. It rarely bothers me except for certain holidays. Thankfully I’ve been blessed with some incredible women in my life! This really resonated with me today. I don’t have room in my life for pity parties. Period.
My next race is the North Fork 50. It’s trails in Colorado, so for the next month I’ll be spending a lot of time in the woods. We had so much fun running this morning!
Cocogo in my handheld. It is so hot and humid in TN right now! Use discount code: JENCHOOSESJOY (all caps)
I know it doesn’t look pretty, but I made some chocolate chia seed pudding the night before and it was the perfect treat after our hot run!
T-shirt du jour!
For lunch we enjoyed some patio time. Deviled eggs and champagne…can you tell I’m southern?!
We must have been in the mood to spend the entire day outside, because we also grilled for dinner: cauliflower steaks, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, and Arrington Firefly Rose!
Has the summer heat hit you yet? I saw that Denver had snow…crazy!
Who raced or had a long run this weekend? Share!
Are you a trail runner?
What’s the longest distance you’ve raced?

Sorry that mother’s day is tough for you:(((….I haven’t tried trail running yet….but I’m very tempted and am thinking I need to go get myself some trail running shoes.

Phoenix hit 100 last week but this week was a lot cooler. But it is going back up this week and will stay that way I am sure until October. I did that night run 8k. It went well. It was a new course and narrow at some points so there was some congestion getting around people. A few of my physical issues-C5C6& my esophagus spasms- acted up but in spite of that I still ran a 42:46. 10th in my age group. The longest distance I have raced is 26.2. What hand held bottle do you use. I have a Nike one but it leaks so much. So I have been looking for suggestions on ones that don’t leak while running. Awesome trail run pic by the way!

Congrats on your race!!! I use an Amphipod (the larger one) and love it. I can’t imagine running in Phoenix heat. You definitely need a good handheld!

I really want to try chia pudding. I mean, I like chia seeds, and I like pudding. I’m worried the consistencies of the two will freak me out- I can be really weird about that. 😉
I applaud you for carrying a handheld water bottle on your runs. I made that mistake once, and almost threw it in the bay.
The summer heat has definitely hit. It was so hot and sticky today. Yuck! Not a good day for me to wear a cardigan, that’s for sure.
I’m not a trail runner. I would love to pursue it one day, but for now I’m sticking to the road.
And, my longest distance was the Disney Marathon this past January.

Chia pudding kind of has a tapioca texture, so I know what you mean! Have a great Monday. 🙂

Your dinner looks amazing!
I love the mimosa tee shirt! Enjoy your weather – it is cold here! We even got snow up at Mammoth. Turned my heater on a tiny bit last night…. 🙂
I haven’t raced longer than a marathon, but I want to try an ultra for sure!
Happy Monday!!

It was actually kind of cold here this weekend! I’ll take it while I can though, the 100 degree days are not far off! Moms aren’t always the people we are born to, there are plenty of people I consider family that aren’t related to me in any way! Have a great day Jen!

I LOVE summer. The humidity can be hard, but I will take it over winter any day!!!! I am sorry about your mom :(. I don’t have a great relationship with my mom and (kind of like you) I try not to let it bother me, but there are times when it does a little. I raced Sat and it did not go at all like I wanted, but I got to meet some great running friends and it was still a really fun weekend! I don’t do trail running (except a flat trail), but my husband does. He is really getting into it and looking at some 31 and 50 milers this fall!

Some of my favorite races are ones that I do not actually race, but enjoy the run with friends. 🙂

Hey Jen! Was just wondering if you had any suggestions for a good place to run a 5 – 8 miler around the Green Hills/Nashville area? My parents live there and am visiting this weekend, and wanted to get in an easy run. Thanks for your advice! Love following your blog.

You can run an out and back up Belmont blvd to music row (16th and 17th ave S) to the roundabout. There are sidewalks and bike lanes for most of the route. 🙂 Have a great trip!!!

I am sorry about the challenges with your Mom–it is great that you have other women to fill that void. I have a race next weekend. I did a trail 32 miler 2 years ago (on Mother’s Day!) Loved it!. It was hot and humid here in NH yesterday (80*), but today it is 58*….

Sounds like you had a great weekend! I’ve raced a marathon but have thought about challenging myself into racing a 50k. I don’t know if I could do anything further. I do not race trails due to me being totally spastic and clumsy, but I do love running outside in the woods. Just have to keep it slow. : ) Glad you had a fun weekend!!

I love the quote about sucking it up and moving on. Grieving is important, for sure, but there’s something to something to be said about not getting stuck there. Your trail run looks perfect! And your foods, drinks, hair, etc etc. lol

I completely agree! I think it’s so unhealthy to stay stuck in a negative place.

That trail run picture looks amazing – I want to run there! I love running trails (like the real kind like you posted – I run on cinders paths often and call them trails, lol!) but don’t get to go too often. There’s one really great one not too far from me but I don’t know the route so well. I am going to get to know it this summer when I’m off of work so I’m not so hesitant to go regularly!

You’re a strong woman! It takes a lot of courage and bravery to have a “suck it up” attitude.
Be careful out there on those trails!!

Jen, I hope y’all had a nice trip to Kentucky to visit Jason’s family! Your grilled dinner looks delicious; don’t you love eating outdoors (before it gets TOO hot!)? We had a nice dinner with my in-laws on Saturday evening, in celebration of Mother’s Day; like you, I’m so thankful for the “other” women in my life who mother me since my own mother and I do not have a relationship with one another. Take care of that knee and do your exercises! Spoken by someone who has had the same problem – ha! It gets better, I promise! Hope you have a great day!

Yes to grilling! I don’t like the heat or humidity one bit, but grilling and all the daylight make summer great.
I love that pity train quote! More often than not, moving on is the key to happiness. Love your positive attitude!

I love your positive attitude, Jen! It looks like you had a great weekend! It’s been warm here but not too bad. Many of my co-workers are in our office in Boulder and they got the snow you mentioned – crazy!!! No race for me, but I’m already getting butterflies for my race on Saturday!

I love trails. They’re relaxing. They’re quiet. 🙂 They give time for thinking and exploring, two things which I love.
