Do you carry a handheld or pack when you run?

What do you drink during your workout?

What are your Memorial Day plans?

  1. Our church is doing a Memorial Day parade and then we invited everyone over for hamburgers on the grill :)!!!!! SO fun!
I have been wanting that Roll8 Recovery for forever…I have almost pulled the trigger several times. You will have to tell me if you like it.
    I eat carbs too….LOTS 🙂

  2. I hung my Memorial day swags too! I spent the day gardening…Memorial day weekend is supposed to be our planting weekend as we are out of frost danger then…However, last night it dipped into the mid 30’s…Maybe I will be covering my plants.
How many hours/week do you run in training for your 50k?

    • We haven’t had 30’s, but it’s been unseasonably cool here, too. No complaints…running has been great! I’ll be somewhere in the mid 80’s for mileage this week with 6 hours of trails this weekend. 🙂

  3. I hide a water bottle and do loops of 5.5 mi around it.
Doesn’t a handheld bother you during long runs? How much does it hold?

I’d love to hear more in depth about your ultra training. How is your training pace compared to the race pace? Is similar to long run pace vs marathon race pace? Do you do anything specific to aid recovery? Tell me everything I need to know! 🙂

    • The handheld bothered me at first, but now I don’t even notice it. Mine is a 20oz. I am much slower on the trails and don’t pay as much attention to pace as I do on the road. Our trails are pretty technical and you have to hike a few of the climbs. Today’s trail run was 10.5 miles at 12:14 pace. When I’m training for a trail ultra, I do all of my long runs for “time on feet”. I like tart cherry juice for recovery, and vega recovery accelerator. Feel free to ask more questions! 🙂

  4. Got to love Memorial Weekend sales!!! My husband and I have been doing a lot of home décor/furniture shopping already this weekend… trying to furnish a new house takes a lot of time and effort. I love the mirrors. You will have to post a picture of the finished product. 🙂

And don’t worry, I eat all the carbs too. You are not alone.

  5. The less I have to carry on my runs the better. I tried a handheld bottle once; my poor boyfriend got stuck carrying it the remaining 7 miles on a 10-mile run. Whoops! 😉

I just stick to water while running.

And, my baby sister is in town for the weekend, so I’ll just be soaking up as much time with her as I can get.

  6. I try to do the paleo thing and don’t eat carbs (mostly because my stomach and gluten don’t play nice) but I still mow pizza every Friday 🙂 I usually don’t drink during my workout so I plan my routes near water fountains. I HATE carrying stuff when I run. I wish I could find something that I liked because I know I’d love to have some sort of hydration!

  7. Congrats on your trail run, Jen – woo hoo!! I do trail runs (and my last marathon) with a hydration vest (the Nathan Zeal); I love my handheld, but it only holds so much and I don’t want to have to find a place to fill up. Also, on the trail, I feel like I need my hands free; I don’t know why…it may be a balance thing, as I’m navigating rocks and roots. Some friends of ours are celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary today and they’re having a huge party; tomorrow, we will recover -ha! Hope you have a great day!

  8. Awesome trail run! I have recently switched to a handheld from a pack and am liking it better. Its taken some time to get used to it but I find it less cumbersome. I usually do water but just placed an order for cocogo thanks to you! 🙂 I ordered the lemon-lime flavor to try first. Thanks!

Memorial day plans consist of grilling out with friends and enjoying the day! Hope you have a great day as well!

  9. Let me know how you like that amphipod handheld. I need a new handheld that doesn’t leak! I love trail running but I’m so terrified of snakes so I have to skip the trails during the spring and summer. It’s so sad but the phobia is legit.
