6 early miles with friends and then 2 more solo.

Look at the goslings!
IMG_2856

The temps are already so hot this year!

Watermelon really hits the spot!
IMG_2839

I took some dresses to get hemmed.  Short person problems…
IMG_2842

And met Jason for lunch.  Grilled portobello on top of a salad is so good!
IMG_2841

My hair was crazy curly.  Just in case you had any doubt about humidity in TN…

I finally got to watch some of Orange is the New Black Season 3!  I’m trying to spread it out, but the struggle is real.

Track Tuesday: The Return of the Russian!

I posted the workout on my Facebook page and this is just a portion of the comments.  My friends crack me up!!!!

On to the workout:
IMG_2846

I did a 4.5 mile warm-up

3x the following workout:
300m (100m recovery)
300m (100m recovery)
300m (100m recovery)
800m jog

1 mile Cool Down

I came home to some more of Jason’s artwork.

David Haywood from Run4Others made an awesome pace calculator.  It makes it super easy to calculate your track splits.  Check it out HERE!

After track and a much needed shower, I got my nails done at The Nail Bar.  OPI Mod About You.

I regularly get deep tissue sports massages and swear by them for recovery.  I switched it up and got a trigger point massage and holy crap did it hurt!!!  The therapist finds a knot or sore spot and digs in with her elbow until the muscle releases.  The scene of the crime…it looks so peaceful.  Don’t be fooled.

Taco Tuesday!

I made Raw Walnut Tacos and they were SO good!!  I’ll type up the recipe soon.  It’s a winner!

Have you ever had a trigger point massage? Have you ever wanted to use four-letter words during massage?!

What was your last speed workout?

Do you get your nails done?  How often?  I go through phases, but it does make me feel like I’m put together.

Do you own a food processor?  How often do you use it?  I’ve been using mine more than ever lately!

  1. I hardly ever use my food processor. I actually enjoy chopping veggie and such by hand. I also have 3 kids who are learning how to do it to help! I don’t like cleaning the fp after using it–so that is the biggest deterrent. Kudos to you for sticking it out through the humidity!
    Do you run 6 days/week?

  2. I used to get trigger point massages all the time when I swimming competitively. They are definitely NOT fun or relaxing. And yes, a few four letter words may have slipped from my mouth haha. I haven’t done a speed workout in far too long! But it was a 6 mile tempo at a 6’50” pace. Ugh… I need a manicure so badly… I love getting them done but I feel like they always chip so quickly so I usually refrain unless it’s a special occasion. No food processor for me, but I LIVE for my Vitamix.

  3. Your husbands art is hysterical and I LOVE that elephant bracelet ( I think I also loved an elephant shirt you were wearing :)).
I have actually never had a massage, but that sounds painful. Kind of like foam rolling painful…you love it, but hate it!
I did a speed workout last Thursday. It was supposed to be 3 x 2 mile repeats, but I couldn’t do it until 4 and it was just too hot so I cut it to 2 x 2 mile repeats 🙂

  4. I do have a food processor but I use my Vitamix the most. I also go through phases on my nails. You just motivated to do mine today. I have had trigger point therapy before. Hurts so good I also bought a Thera Cane for at home trigger point therapy. I have a lot of lower back/hip/pirformis issues and this gadget is wonderful for getting into those knots. I haven’t done speed work since last fall, but do plan to add it in this fall before my next marathon. This Atlanta heat and humidity is killing me lately!!!! Great job and staying on “track” in this heat!!

  5. Ha, I have definitely wanted to utter four letter words during PT when I was getting Graston on my calf! Actually, I think my PT gave me a heads up that most people do curse at him, so it made me feel a little better. I did my track workout on the treadmill yesterday–it’s way too humid out to do it outside. I’d love to be able to get my nails done on a weekly basis, but I use the computer so much at work that I feel like they’d chip after like two days and then I’d be annoyed, so I’d rather get pedi’s. But mani’s do make me feel more polished for sure!

  6. I’ve never had a massage, let alone a trigger massage. I keep telling myself I’ll do a reward post Ultra w a massage and pedicure.
I don’t get my nails painted. At work the nail polish always comes off and I can’t have nail polish on if I have to scrub in for a surgery. I did however get a pedicure from my 5 year old the other day, it was….colorful 🙂
The shorts you are wearing in the first picture, are too cute! 🙂
    Happy Wednesday!!

  7. I have never gotten a trigger point massage and just hearing about it, I’m not sure I could eve nit still for it!
I don’t have a food processor at this point but have thought it may be nice to have for certain recipes. I just don’t like that its another kitchen appliance to store.
I am known by my friends and co-workers for always having the “prettiest nails”. I enjoy painting them myself. Its a form of relaxation for me and have gotten really good if I do say so myself 😉 I do like to go for a manicure once in a while and in fact, I am going Friday with my mom! And I agree, it makes me feel put together and polished- pun intended, haha.

    Have a great hump day!!

    • I was just telling my husband that we should build a butlers pantry to store all of the kitchen appliances. They take up too much space. That’s awesome that you can do your own nails. If I did mine, they’d look like a 4 year old did them!

  8. I would never have known that you are short and need to get things hemmed!! I’m only 5 ft 1.5 and mostly end up needing to shop petites. But you look so tall with your lean runner’s physique!!

  9. Awe, Jason is so sweet. My first track workout in a very long time was Friday (5 days ago) and I am STILL feeling it. 800s are no joke! YOWCH. And yeah, I didn’t know you were petite! Funny how being slim makes peeps look tall. Have a good day, Jen!

  10. I am also a routine deep-tissue massage person. My friend owns (one of) the massage studios I go to and he is a Thai massage therapist. For years he was telling me to get a Thai but I told him I prefer to just lay there and get the knots dug into. Thai massage looked like too much work to me! I thought that it was like yoga while getting a massage. He said in Thai, the therapist does most of the work. Anyway, I finally got one and it was amazing! The therapist does in fact do everything and is able to get into the knots convincingly 🙂

  11. I love my food processor! Lately I’ve been using it a lot of make salad dressings, since I don’t like to buy anything with weird additives or preservatives. I did 600s on Monday morning, and they actually weren’t as bad as I anticipated!

  12. I got a massage after a long and strenuous hike this weekend. I swear it wrecks my body worse than a half marathon. The therapist worked on my soleus and man did it hurt! But it definitely has helped speed my recovery and I’ve been back running regular mileage.

  13. Um, the last time I had trigger point massage I almost cried on the table – GAH! I felt so much better afterward, but I haven’t had the guts to do it again – ha! Maybe I’ll suck it up, one of these days; you are my hero, Jen! I only get my nails done every once in awhile; there was a time when my position (I work in a hospital) did not allow me to wear nail polish (infection control, etc.), so I got out of the habit, but I do think it looks so nice! Sometimes, because I’m lazy, I cheat and “process” food in my Vitamix because it’s already out on the counter; truly, though, there are some jobs that work much better in the food processor. Love your black & white dress; my fave color combo!!

  14. I need to try some deep tissue massage. Have been thinking about trying ART / Graston for my nagging calf and ITB issues! Love this post! Your run group looks so fun! I’m so jeal!! Great workout! 💪🏻💪🏻 also, love Mod About You! Perfect summer color!
