I started running in 2008 and quickly fell in love with the sport. I race distances from 5k to 50k and especially love ultra trail running.
I am a member of the Fleet Feet Racing Team sponsored by Nike Running, an Ultra Dirtbag Member, Cocogo Ambassador (use code: JENCHOOSESJOY for 10% off), RRCA Certified Coach, and I’m on the Oiselle Flock Team. I am a wife, vegetarian, and Nashville native. My other interests include playing the violin and cheering on the Univeristy of Kentucky Wildcats. I feel blessed to be a part of the running community and I am grateful for the friendships that it has brought into my life!
I am not an exceptional athlete…I run for the love of it. I am always trying to be the best me. As my blog name states…I believe that joy is a choice and I do my best to make the most of each day!

Has running always been a part of your life? One of my goals is to run 50k, but I can barely get in 7!

I’ve only been running for around 6 years. It was so tough for me to run a mile when I started. I’ve just slowly built up my mileage. You can totally run a 50k!

Do you have an email I could contact you at? Could you do a post on how to build up speed?

You can email me through the ‘Contact Me’ section in the menu! I can definitely put together a post about increasing speed:)

My husband and I have been itching to do a weekend trip from Louisville to Nashville….where are the best spots to run, either trails or roads?

My favorite spot to run is Percy Warner Park…either for trails or on the park road. Its also fun to run around downtown and around the Vandy/Parthenon/Hillsboro Village area. Let me knowing there’s anything I can do to help you plan your trip!!

I just love your blog! Just a question, do you have recommendations on good running gear for colder weather? Do you typically run on treadmill in winter or do you still run outside? Thanks so much!

I do my best to run outside all winter. I go nuts on the treadmill. I need to write a post about my favorote cold gear!

It is fab here! Do you have a post that shows your weekly cross training / core schedule etc? I can see you are great for supplementing your running and wondering if you have a schedule you follow? Thanks 🙂

I’ve done a few posts like that. One is called My Daily Core. Another is called weight training. My schedule is always training but I make sure to run and do core work every day. I add free weights on days where my run mileage is lower.

Glad I found your blog! I moved to Nashville (Franklin actually) back in January from Chicago. I’m training for my 4th marathon right now. I can’t wait to try some of the recipes you have posted – they look great! 🙂
