Lots of Fruit and Group Runs

Monday:
IMG_2347

I met up with friends for a 5:30 run and then added on a few more solo miles.
IMG_2348

We loaded up our fridge with lots of fresh fruit over the weekend.  It’s so good after a hot run!
IMG_2367

Super cool surprise from Jason…an iWatch!
IMG_2350

And for dinner, I made roasted veggie and quinoa bowl with peanut sauce from My Veggie Chef.  I always keep a few of their dinners in my freezer for nights when we’re in a hurry at dinner time.
IMG_2360

And, I wrote a blog about hot weather running (with a bunch of fun gif’s…of course)!
IMG_2351

Track Tuesday:

Check out the sunrise.
IMG_2352

I’m still taking it easier than usual on the track.  4.5 mile warmup, 400m repeats (400m recovery jog), and 1 mile cool down.  I think you can tell just how hot it was!
IMG_2353

I hydrated afterwards with peach, raspberry, and lemon infused water.  It hit the spot!
IMG_2349

I got my hair cut that afternoon.  I love when my stylist straightens my hair!
IMG_2359

Restoration Hardware, let’s talk about your phone book sized catalog.  I love you, but it’s completely unnecessary!
IMG_2366

In honor of Taco Tuesday…
IMG_2356

Wednesday:

I joined my sweet friends for a road/trail hybrid run through Percy Warner Park.  We logged another 1,000ft elevation gain.
IMG_2363

I chowed down on the yummiest kiwi.
IMG_2364

My iWatch definitely doesn’t replace my Garmin for running, but I’m really enjoying the fitness tracking features.
IMG_2362

I stopped by Fleet Feet and picked up a new pair of Terra Kigers.  Aren’t they pretty?!  That will last for a few minutes on the trails!
IMG_2372

For dinner, Jason and I tried the new Blaze Pizza.  Judging from the pizza bones, I think we liked it.
IMG_2381

Is this a pet peeve for anyone else?
IMG_2374

And a few outtakes from the track, because they’re always my favorite.  🙂
IMG_2354
IMG_2355

Who has an iWatch?  Thoughts?

What’s your favorite trail shoe?

What healthy foods do you try to keep stocked in your kitchen?  Obviously, I try to always have lots of fruit on hand!

Are you a pizza crust person or do you leave it behind?

The rain began right after we started running, and we were soaked the entire time!  We picked up Christi Beth midway through the run.  P.S. I promise I was wearing shorts.  Wet run clothes are not flattering.

We all wore our Nike Terra Kigers.

Amputee Blade Runners

Monday:
Monday’s are tough.
 IMG_0090
I met up with friends for some Monday morning miles…
IMG_0093
and did some strides after.  I wore my new Saucony Kinvara 6’s and really liked them!
IMG_0091
I’m definitely a numbers nerd…love this!
IMG_0094
Monday evening, Fleet Feet hosted the Amputee Blade Runners.  Fleet Feet Nashville gives each blade runner their first pair of shoes when they first get their new running blade.  Just another reason why I love Fleet Feet!
IMG_0107
Running prosthetics are NOT covered by insurances and considered “not medically necessary” so our organization helps amputees keep an active lifestyle.
The Goal of Amputee Blade Runners is to provide a running prosthesis to one amputee athlete in all 50 states by 2016.
IMG_0098
IMG_0096
IMG_0095
Track Tuesday!
I was excited to wear my new Amputee Blade Runner’s visor!
IMG_0101
Thanks to recommendations from JCJ readers, I tried the Chocolate Honey Stinger gel.  Oh my gosh…it rocks!!
IMG_0099
Track workout:  After a bunch of spring races, we wanted to ease back into speed work.
3.5 mile warm-up
8x400m at 5k pace (400m recovery jog)
1 mile cool down
IMG_0100
I recently started training for the North Fork 50k, so I headed out to the trails for a few “runch” miles.  Everything was so beautiful and green!
IMG_0102
IMG_0104
IMG_0103
Fun mail!!  I have resorted to ordering my favorite Umpqua Oats by the case!
IMG_0106
And, I made another batch of chia seed pudding.  It’s been my craving lately.  This one has almond milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and peanut butter!

Run Fastah

Monday:
IMG_8319
I met up with friends for 5 miles and then added a few more solo miles after.  The dogwoods are gorgeous in TN right now, and my friend Dave shared the story of the dogwood with us.  Dogwoods bloom around Easter.  Blood stains the edges of the petals and the bloom’s center wears a crown of thorns.  I had never heard it before and will forever look at dogwoods differently.
IMG_8322
I realized that I would have a date with the Unicorn in 7 days…eek!!!
IMG_8320
I grabbed a green smoothie after my run.
IMG_8321
Trackish Tuesday:
Because it’s race week, my track workout was modified.
5 miles at 8:50 pace
3 miles at 7:50 pace
It was 70 degrees with 97% humidity.  Let’s hope we don’t have to race in that weather!
IMG_8326
I was in a hurry after track, so I made a quick cup of my favorite instant oats.
IMG_8327
And headed to Franklin Massage for a tune-up before Boston.
IMG_8328
Tuesday afternoon I had the pleasure of working with St. Jude to film a spot for our local news.  Ian Miller (a St. Jude patient), Richard Shadyac the CEO of ALSAC, and my friends Roy and Stephanie participated.  This was the second time that I got to “work” with Ian.  Read about the first time HERE!
IMG_8342
IMG_8340
IMG_8343
I’m running the CMM as a St. Jude Hero and would greatly appreciate any and all donations to the Children’s Research Hospital!!  No family ever receives a bill from St. Jude thanks to your donations.  CLICK HERE TO DONATE!!  The Country Music Marathon is only 10 days away, so don’t wait to donate!!!
IMG_8339
Because it was Taco Tuesday, I stopped by Chipotle for dinner.

Wednesday: One Boston Day
It’s comforting to know that coffee needs me, too.
IMG_7794
The best way I know to honor One Boston Day, is to run.
IMG_8331
Kismet…My New Balance Fresh Foam Zante: Boston Edition arrived!
IMG_8336
And finally, some random musings…
I received an email from Nike with their new clothes.  What do you think of these Hammer-esque capris?!  I feel like this style should stay in the 80’s.
IMG_8330
KINDa like a candy BAR…Kind Bars were all over the news.  READ HERE .  Thoughts?
IMG_8332
Had you heard the story of the dogwood before?
What do you think about the Nike MC Hammer pants?
Do you love Kind Bars?  We always have a few in our house.
Did you do a speed workout this week?

Weekend Wrap-Up

Saturday:
I busted open a fresh pair of Saucony Kinvara’s.  These will be my Boston Marathon shoes!!
IMG_7636
I wore them to pace my Fleet Feet CMM group for 18 miles…felt great!
IMG_7637
I didn’t feel like cooking steel-cut oats after my run, so I had the next best option…Umpqua Instant Oats.  They’re SO good!!
IMG_7638
It was game day, so I sported my Kentucky blue.  Spoiler alert: they lost, but it was one heck of a season!
IMG_7639
I decided that I’m tired of skinny jeans.  Yes, they’re cool.  Yes, they make me feel like a sausage link.  So, I bought a pair of bootcut jeans.  Note: the pair that fits me best is for a curvy body type!
IMG_7640
I celebrated my long run with a glass of champagne.  It’s a good tradition.
IMG_7641
Were you able to see the blood moon eclipse?
IMG_7642
Easter Sunday:
IMG_7643
I went for an early morning workout, and came home to my husband!!  He was supposed to be out of town, but managed to come home for the day.  Great surprise!!!!
IMG_7644
I see this joke every year and it always cracks me up!
IMG_7645
I took advantage of some down time and enjoyed our front porch swing 🙂
IMG_7646
If you’ve been reading along for a while, you know that we don’t have any kids.  Easter is one of those days where I wish we did.  It would be so much fun to play Easter bunny.  Plus, I could share their candy.  (NOTE: this is totally not a reason to have a kid!)  But, I didn’t have a single jelly bean, Peep, or Reese’s Egg this year.  Crazy!  Follow me on Twitter HERE!!!
IMG_7647
It’s hard to believe that Lent is over.  For 44 days, I gave up sweets and added a daily Joy Jar ritual.  I’m so glad the sweets are back in my life!! However, I do plan to continue with my Joy Jar.  It’s such a nice practice to write down something I’m thankful for every day.  And, I love the physical reminder of seeing my jar accumulate gratitude.
IMG_7649
IMG_7653
Totally random question: Are you dipper?  I always order my salad dressing, ketchup, syrup, etc…on the side.  I feel like I should have outgrown this practice in kindergarten.
Do you believe in the omen of the blood moon?  Is there a big change or event happening in your life?
Easter highlight?  unexpectedly getting to spend the day with my husband!
Favorite Easter candy? I like Peeps (preferably the bunnies) and Reese’s Eggs.

Time Trials Terrify Me

Monday:
IMG_6906
I met up with sweet friends at the butt crack of dawn for 7 miles.  I blame the early hour for this bad picture!
IMG_6904
It ended up being 70 degrees and sunny, so I worked on my blog from my porch swing.
IMG_6907
I had help from Caroline and Charlotte!  It was National Puppy Day, so they really wanted me to take their picture. 😉
IMG_6909
Jason was out of town, so of course I ate like a bachelor.  Popcorn and guacamole.  I pop my popcorn in coconut oil. It’s so good and healthier!

Tuesday:  Time Trial Day…eek!
IMG_6912
4 times a year, for Fleet Feet’s Speed Sessions, we do a time trial.  Tuesday’s was a 2 miler.  We base our future training paces off of the time.  It terrifies me every time!!!  There’s something about lining up on the track knowing it’s going to hurt.
It got there early to warm up.  4 miles.
IMG_6913
We did drills and lined up.
1 year ago: 13:46
Tuesday: 13:31 (It felt really good to see progress!)
We were all so happy to have it behind us!
IMG_6914
After track, I got a haircut.  I love when my hairdresser straightens my hair.
IMG_6900
I picked up a pair of the new New Balance Fresh Foam Zante and joined the No Boundaries group for a few more evening miles.  The shoes felt great, and I’m excited to run in them again!  It was also nice to shakeout my legs after the track workout.
IMG_6921
You all know that I love Taco Tuesday!
IMG_6901
The struggle is real…
IMG_6903
Rock ‘n’ Roll announced the registration date for Las Vegas!!!  I’ll be there!
IMG_6905
What workout or race distance will always make you nervous?
Have you ever run Rock n Roll Las Vegas?  This will be my first year!  Let me know what you thought about it.
What’s your speed work for the week?
