North Fork Race Photos!

First things first, I got a few more photos from the North Fork 50!!

These beautiful flowers were all over the course!

And I teared up AGAIN, when I saw this finish photo with Corrie!!!  Pure JOY!

Alright…back to real life!

Wednesday:   Muggy morning miles with awesome friends!

I took my Yeti to the smoothie shop so it wouldn’t melt so quickly.  It’s a thousand degrees in TN.

My new Hungry Runner Girl tank arrived!!  Caroline and I enjoyed some sunshine on the front porch.

The hubs is doing a juice cleanse this week.  Fun times in our house…lol!!

I’m loving my joy tote from ED by Ellen!

We had an awesome group for this week’s Brentwood Breakfast Club!

It wouldn’t be BBC without breakfast.

Nashville is finally getting on the acai bowl bandwagon…woohoo!  This beauty is from Juice Bar.

My friend CB gave me a box of the new Skratch Cookie Mix, so I decided to bake cookies for the Fleet Feet Dirtbag Trail Mixer/Run.  The mix is really healthy.

Of course I added toffee and mini chocolate chips making it a little less healthy.  🙂

They turned out really well!

We had a great time!!

Except for my mosquito bites!

I hit the gym..10.10 miles on July 10th seemed fun!  Followed by a smoothie. 🙂

Have you seen the new chocolates at Starbucks?!!  This one is SO good!!!

Today is the last day to enter my PRO Compression GIVEAWAY on Instagram!  Find this image and follow the directions….it’s super simple!

Milk Chocolate, White Chocolate, and Dark Chocolate…rank from best to worst! Dark, White, Milk

Do mosquitos eat you up?!

Tell me about your pet(s)!!

Oh Baby!

I drank the necessary coffee and met up with Corrie and Dave for a trail/road run through Percy Warner Park.

My sweet pup Charlotte had a vet appointment.  I think she knew where we were going and wasn’t willing to smile for her picture.  I would really appreciate any prayers and good mojo that you could send our way.  She hasn’t been feeling well lately.

We had a special Brentwood Breakfast Club baby shower run to celebrate Al’s new baby!  His wife actually went into labor the previous Thursday while he was running with us.

Sappy moment: I am beyond grateful for our run community, friends, tribe.

We tried a new spot in Brentwood…Just Love Coffee.  We all keep calling it ‘Must’ Love Coffee (Freudian slip)!

When I got home, I baked a double batch of Brown Sugar Biscoff Cookies for the Dirtbag Trail Mixer.  This recipe is a winner and I’ll post it soon!

I didn’t want to eat anything too heavy before the run, so I made a Pitaya Bowl.  Isn’t it pretty?!

Fleet Feet had a big turnout for their trail mixer/run!  They host these trail mixers all summer long.  6pm.  Percy Warner Park.  Deep Wells Trailhead.  EVERYONE is welcome!

Abby is the new big sister from the aforementioned baby shower!  She is also a great trail runner!

8 mile treadmill run, cheesy #flexfriday pose, and The Perch for breakfast!

I volunteered for a race packet pickup at Fleet Feet for a couple of hours.  The funny part…it was for a beer run and I don’t even drink beer!

Nashvillians: Fleet Feet is going to host a weekly Beer Run every Tuesday at 6pm in the Gulch with specials on local beers!

I also found out this week that I’m an ambassador for San Clemente Cookie Dough Co.  I’m a big fan of their dairy-free, egg-free, and gluten-free Cookie Dough Squeeze pouches!!  Use code: JENCHOOSESJOY for 10% off your order!

Which fruit are loving right now?  Peaches!

Are you a beer drinker?  Ever done a beer race or fun run?

Do you eat before evening runs?  What works best for you?  I typically run in the morning, so running around dinner time always messes me up.

What do you have planned for the weekend?  Races, long runs, Father’s Day?

Three Day Weekend Wrap-Up

Pre-run coffee in my Boston mug.

On Friday, I ran a 4 hour trail run.  Saturday, I joined Jason and ran a little over 2 hours to practice running on tired legs.  I don’t focus on pace when I trail run, but I’ve had quite a few folks ask about it.  I’m definitely a lot slower on the trails!

When I got home, I made a dateorade.  It’s creamy, caramel, vanilla, cinnamon goodness!  It’s also vegan and raw!

I was craving salt, so we headed to Chuy’s for lunch.  I promise there’s a salad in that bowl!

First person in an empty gym and a recovery run on the treadmill…

Yes, I was listening to T Swift!

I followed the gym with breakfast with Jason.  I definitely have a healthy appetite….fruit, oatmeal, green juice, and coffee!

And we headed to Smith Park for a little more trail time.  It was a gorgeous day and we wanted to spend as much time outside as we could!

I picked up my first Go Pro!  I have no idea how to use it yet, but I’m excited to learn.

To get some more outside time, we had dinner on the Burger Up patio.  Sunday Funday!

Monday: Memorial Day

We woke up to ominous skies and headed to Percy Warner Park to get our run in as fast as possible.  We finished just in time!

After a full weekend of running, I made sure to drink Tart Cherry Juice for recovery.

Now, I feel just like Caroline!

Who has a GoPro?  Do you like it?  Share your tips!!

Dates…yay or nay?  They’re like candy for me!

What’s your favorite song to workout to right now?

Miles and Music

Long Run Prep:

Whenever I’m running over 20 miles, I use it as an excuse to have a big bowl of Friday night pasta!

My brain doesn’t work early Saturday morning, so I make sure to have my ducks in a row the night before.

The all important coffee…I could write an entire post about how much I love my Nespresso Vertuoline.

I joined the Run 4 Others group again this week for 21 (very COLD) miles.

Great company made the miles fly by!

Without these Hot Hands tucked into my gloves, I’m convinced I would have lost a few digits.

When I got home, my very sweet husband had made steel-cut oats with my Gran’s peaches…so good!

We ran errands, bummed around the house, and watched the Cats lose:(  Thank goodness it’s basketball season!

Saturday night, we went to a St. Jude Songwriter Night Fundraiser.  I even put on real clothes…crazy!

One of the best things about living in Nashville is the musical talent!  Jenn Schott (one of my favorite run friends) is also a very talented singer songwriter.  She worked with the Run 4 Others group to organize a songwriters night to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Not only did we enjoy dinner and great music, but they raised a lot of money for the hospital!!  Sorry it’s a cruddy picture, but I loved seeing so many runners support a great cause!!!

My hot date!

Also, don’t forget that I’m running St. Jude Memphis on December 6 to raise money for the Children’s Hospital.  It’s not too late to make a donation.  No amount is too small!!!!  Just click the link:)  It’s for the kids:) You know you want to:)

The rain was supposed to hold off, but we woke up to a very wet and cold Sunday morning.  So…outdoor USMC Bootcamp sounded like a great idea!  Hills, pushup, situps, etc…

These folks made it fun!  Bonus: I finally got to meet a social media run friend, Julie Ulery.  She’s an awesome runner and has a new blog UleryRuns!

We decided that this is the appropriate outfit for cold and wet hill sprints.

It took me forever to thaw out.  Even Caroline was parked beside the heat vent.

The weather stayed nasty all day, so we put in some gym time.

I did a lot of TRX work.

And abs…

Needless to say, I feel like jelly after a day full of cross training.

Earlier this week, Dorothy Beal from Mile Posts posted this quote.  It has stuck with me, so I wanted to share it!

Did you race or long run this weekend?

How are you braving the cold weather?

What’s your favorite dinner before a long run?

You Can’t Train For The Monkey

I started the day off right…with an apple butter crepe and coffee at The Perch!

Then I headed over to Percy Warner Park to run the 11.2 loop through the park with Roy and Malin.  This is just a portion of the Flying Monkey Marathon course (November 23).  The fall leaves were gorgeous!!  (1,203 ft gain)

The race director “Monkey Trent” loves to remind us that you can’t train for The Monkey.  Here’s an excerpt from today’s Monkey email…

Nothing burns like the Monkey.  But only for a while.  Then it gets inside you and starts to fill you up, and after a while you don’t have the strength to fight it.  It’s easier just to sit down and go to sleep.  They say you don’t feel any pain toward the end.  First you go weak and drowsy, and everything starts to fade, and then it’s like sinking into a sea of warm milk.  Peaceful, like.  Does the Monkey scare you?  It should.

Sounds like fun, yes?!!!

Today is Charlotte’s 7th Birthday!!!!

I love this girl SOOOOOO much!

Today, also had a Saucony theme.  I was wearing this awesome Find Your Strong long sleeve tee

When my new NYC Triumph ISO’s arrived!!!!

I’ve read and heard so many great reviews of this shoe.

I can’t wait to take them for a test run!!!

I made a new quinoa recipe for dinner tonight…really good!!  I’ll write up the recipe soon, so keep an eye out for it!

Do you celebrate your pet’s birthday? If so, what do you do?

What brand of shoe did you first start running in?  What brand do you wear now? My first pair was the Brooks Glycerin.  Now I wear the Saucony Kinvara.

What are you having for dinner tonight?

Progress and PT

Let’s start with last night aka Transformation Tuesday.

I posted this picture on my Instagram account. (jenchoosesjoy)  These are the finish lines from my first marathon in 2010 and this year’s Chicago Marathon.  After my first one, I didn’t think I’d ever run one again vs. how much I absolutely LOVED running Chicago this year.

I almost didn’t post the pictures and then I wondered why?  Mostly, I just don’t like the idea of before and afters.  I never actually feel like an ‘after’…more like a work in progress.  So, let’s just think of it as a progress pic and I’m proud of my progress:)

Bum Knee update: It’s still a little swollen and sore but making progress.   I ran 9 slow miles on Tuesday and 8 slow miles on Wednesday.

I went to my first PT appointment and I was really nervous.

It ended up being great!  Leah asked some great questions about my running history, stretched, poked, and prodded my legs, scraped all up and down my right quad and knee (which strangely hurt and felt great at the same time), videoed me running on the treadmill and concluded that…

I turn my knee caps inward when I run.  Who knew?  Especially my right knee.  The rest of my form was pretty good, so I have some exercises to strengthen the support muscles.  I will also be going back for more scraping.  I’m sure there’s a better term…I’ll research and get back to you:)

Random life stuff…

I got a haircut

While I was getting ready, this little nugget decided to lay in the sunny spot in front of my sink. Of course I didn’t want to disturb her sunbathing and just worked around her.

I had my favorite lunch of mâché rosettes and strawberries. It never gets old and I’m making efforts to eat a little cleaner since I’m not running as much.

I got busy making some Halloween goodies…recipe coming soon!

And don’t judge, but I was browsing through some gift shops and came across these JOY Christmas tree ornaments. I know it’s way too early, but I just has to buy them!

Don’t forget, I’m running the St. Jude Memphis Marathon to as a Hero to raise money for the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.  I, along with all of the children and families, would greatly appreciate any donation.  No family pays for their medical care, housing, travels, etc…thanks to private donations…incredible!!!  Click HERE to make a donation.

Have you ever had to got to PT?  What for and for how long?

What’s your favorite charity to support?

When do you start decorating for Christmas? I try to wait until after Thanksgiving.

Home Again, Home Again, Jiggety-Jig

Does anyone remember that nursery rhyme? I had to google how to spell jiggety. Apparently, there’s an urban dictionary version of the word.  Definitely not what I was looking for!  I digress.

I woke up this morning with a post race swagger. Aka, I can’t walk like a normal person.  My tweet sums it up…

I wanted to loosen up, so we did a shakeout walk to WildBerry for breakfast…

and a walk through Grant Park.

We went back to the room, packed, and flew home to Nashville.

When we picked up our puppies, they came home with Halloween bows and scarves 🙂 My husband couldn’t wait to take them off 😦

My new Saucony Kinvara 5 Kona’s were waiting on me!!!

I was so excited to wear one of my new Chicago Marathon shirts today!

We ran a few errands and ended the day with some celebratory froyo!

We’re having crazy storms in TN this evening!!  After a very full weekend, this rain is going to help me sleep like a champ tonight.

How long do you wait to run after a race?

Do you wait to wear your race shirts until after the race? I’m kind of supersticious about it.

What’s your favorite froyo flavor and toppings? I got cupcake batter with choc. chip cookie dough on top!!!
