Weekend Wrap-Up

Saturday:
I know it’s a little twisted, but I love getting up early and having a leisurely cup of coffee before my long run.
IMG_7283
I paced my Fleet Feet CMM group.  Corrie and I ran 3 miles before, 17 miles with the group, and 2 miles after.  It was 26 degrees and ended in the 40’s…perfect!!
IMG_7284
Afterwards, I inhaled a bowl of steel cut oatmeal.
IMG_7285
Legs up with a knee sleeve and two calf sleeves.  Compression and gravity are my friends.
IMG_7286
My Boston Marathon packet arrived in the afternoon…the best post-long run reward!!!
IMG_7287
Even though I was worn out, we stayed up to watch KY just barely beat Notre Dame!
IMG_7288
It was SO stressful!
IMG_7290
Sunday: Palm Sunday
IMG_7289
I really wanted to sleep in, but I got my tired butt out of the bed and into the gym for a recovery run.
IMG_7291
It was a beautiful day, so we took the pups for an afternoon walk.  Those puppy butts and tails make me so happy!
And, I wore my Choose Joy bracelet that Corrie gave me! (Caroline photobomb!)
IMG_7296
Our first outdoor fire of the year.
IMG_7292
It was a lovely day and I was sad for it to end.
IMG_6853
Monday:
IMG_7293
Monday Morning Miles.  Never miss a Monday!
IMG_7294
A few weeks ago I won 3rd place in the #MilesForRunnerMarx contest.  My prize, this rad hat, arrived!!
IMG_7295
Has anyone tried Kalettes?!!
IMG_7323
If brussels sprouts and kale had a baby, it would be kalettes.  I roasted them for dinner…so good!  (That sounded like I roasted a baby.  You know what I meant.)
IMG_7324
What’s your next race?  How far away is it?  Are you ready? Boston is 3 weeks away…crazy!
Do you like early mornings?
Would you try Kalettes?  Jason doesn’t like kale, but he loved these.
What did you have for dinner last night?  We had seared tofu, lemon-parmesan asparagus, and roasted kalettes.

Memphis Bound

So, I made a last minute decision to run the St. Jude Memphis Marathon. I was registered for the half.  I wasn’t sure how I’d feel after running the Flying Monkey Marathon just two weeks ago. I still have heavy legs (read…I’ll be slow), but I’m looking forward to the distance.  I’m using it as a training run for my upcoming ultra.

3 marathons in 7 weeks.  This is first for me!

So with that said…I haven’t tapered.

Wednesday:

My fave crepe breakfast at the Perch!

IMG_0707

Followed by 11 miles with these beautiful ladies!  This run in Percy Warner Park was part of the Flying Monkey Marathon course.  It felt like I was returning to the scene of the crime!

IMG_0708

Thursday:

A rainy run with The Breakfast Club…followed by breakfast (of course)!

IMG_0709

I also did some PiYo DVD’s afterwards.

Friday:

Memphis Bound…in the rain.  Thank goodness it’s not raining like this on race day!!

IMG_0713

Jason loves when I do this…

IMG_0712

Lunch at J Alexander’s in Germantown for magical cornbread croutons and a veggie burger.  The croutons aren’t on the menu…just ask for them.  Now!

IMG_0711

IMG_0710

We hit up the expo…

IMG_0714

Where I had to buy some St. Jude swag!  The Run TN shirt is from Fleet Feet🙂

IMG_0715

We checked into the Peabody.  It’s always so pretty at Christmas.  And, big BONUS: you can walk to the start and finish line from the hotel:)  No race morning parking fiascos!!

IMG_0717

IMG_0716

I knew I’d need to rest, so I brought our Christmas cards with me and FINALLY finished addressing them!

IMG_0718

St. Jude Heroes are invited to the Pasta Party.  You receive quite the greeting!!

IMG_0720

It’s not too late to give!  Click HERE to make a donation 🙂

IMG_0721

We joined our Run 4 Others friends for dinner.

IMG_0723

And listened to some remarkable first hand accounts of the many ways St. Jude provides care for children with cancer for NO CHARGE to their families.  This race is about so much more than running.

Have you ever made a last minute decision to run a marathon?  How did it go?

Monkey Marathon Recovery

I had a blast running the Flying Monkey Marathon last weekend!  Can you tell?!

IMG_0410

IMG_0412

IMG_0406

Because it was a long training run, I had to get my butt back into gear quickly this week.  Here’s what my “recovery” looked like…

Monday:

5 Miles

PiYo Hardcore On The Floor

The cutest shirts arrived at Fleet Feet!

IMG_0175

IMG_0231

I made this awesome Sweet Potato Pomegranate Salad for dinner.

IMG_0199

Tuesday:

6 miles with The Breakfast Club

IMG_0407

They brought me my favorite cookies to celebrate the Monkey!

IMG_0408

I ran a few more miles and did PiYo Drench.  This is my new favorite PiYo workout!

I received this email and had a little dance party for one in my kitchen!

IMG_0409

I pulled some of my Vegetarian Quinoa Chili out of the freezer for dinner.  I think it’s even better reheated!

IMG_0411

Wednesday:

Started the day with breakfast at the Perch with the hubs.

IMG_0413

And had a solid 10 mile run.  I felt great especially considering it was 3 days post-marathon!

IMG_0414

I made White Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch Bars to take to Thanksgiving!  Big THANKS to my friend Corrie for sharing her recipe!!!  They’re so good and actually pretty healthy. I’ll post the recipe shortly:)

IMG_0415

Thanksgiving Thursday:

IMG_0416

I ran 11 miles.  5 of those were with this group for the Boulevard Bolt (my fave Thanksgiving tradition)!

IMG_0417
Friday:

7 miles with my husband.  We both had heavy legs from lots of running and took it nice and easy:)

IMG_0420

And now I’m prepped for Saturday’s long run.  My plan calls for 18-20 miles.

IMG_0423

How was your Thanksgiving race?

What was the best thing you ate on Thanksgiving?  Mashed Sweet Potatoes

What’s your favorite workout DVD?  PiYo is the first time I’ve tried workout videos.

Fleet Feet Race Team and Some Crazy Skin Advice

First things first:  It’s Hug A Runner Day!

IMG_9908

Please observe the proper etiquette…

I started off the day with a crepe date at The Perch,

IMG_9896

and then headed over to Percy Warner Park to run the 11.2 mile loop with Malin and Laurie.  Their great company made the hilly miles fly by!

IMG_9902

IMG_9898

Aside from their great company, the coolest part of our run was getting to see the frost flowers!!  They’re so pretty and from what I read, they’re pretty rare.

IMG_9900

IMG_9901

I read this list: 25 Signs You Drink Too Much Wine.  My favorite: #4.  Olivia Pope is my spirit animal!

IMG_9905

Thanks to Beth Meadows for that list!  Beth is a super fast runner, cool chick, and I love her blog: Ultra Marathon of Life.

Exciting News!!  I signed my contract to run on the Fleet Feet Racing Team for another year…woo hoo!  Roy also signed his contract today!!!  He has run a bazillion ultras and marathons.  I love these guys!!

IMG_9903

IMG_9894

To celebrate, I tried our new Saladworks for dinner.  Nothing says celebration like a salad…doh.  It just worked out that way.  Anyways, I do love a big as yo face salad and they didn’t disappoint.

IMG_9895

Two thumbs up…I’ll definitely return!  The butternut squash soup was especially good:)

IMG_9907

And now for some crazy skincare advice:  I visited my dermatologist this week.  I’m having trouble with chapped dry skin around my mouth and nose from running in the cold.  Her advice…Head & Shoulders Shampoo.  She said to massage the shampoo onto the dry areas, rinse and wash as usual.  Yes, I’m putting dandruff shampoo on my face…I’ll keep you posted on how this one works out!

IMG_9906

Lastly, a little nugget of wisdom.  ALWAYS be kind to yourself!

IMG_9897
Have you ever seen frost flowers?

What’s your favorite type of wine?  I especially love Champagne and Pinot Noir!

What are your go-to salad toppings?  I end up making a taco salad…beans, corn, tofu, tortilla chips, etc…

Do you have any dry skin advice?  Share!

Welcome to the Weekend!

IMG_9211

I hope you guys have had a wonderful week!

Here’s a look at my last few days.  (Does that sound like I’m dying?)  Anyways…you get the idea!

Wednesday

I had a crepe and coffee at The Perch…

IMG_9606

with Oprah.

IMG_9603

Afterwards, I met Laurie and Malin at Percy Warner Park to run the 11.2 mile loop.  I am loving this weekly run, but it kicks my butt every time.

IMG_9607

I’ve been doing this weekly run to prepare for the Flying Monkey Marathon next weekend (that’s crazy close)!   The race director (@monkeytrent) loves to remind us that you can’t train for the Monkey.  He sent out a pic of the medal.

IMG_9608

The big story in Nashville this week was Taylor Swift’s photobomb.  She was running in Percy Warner Park (same as above), saw a family having their portraits taken, and asked if she could join in.  First, that’s super sweet of her.  Second, who looks this good while running?!

IMG_9619

Maybe I should start fixing my hair and wearing red lipstick just in case I happen upon a photo shoot.

IMG_9618

My super awesome friend, Corrie, is racing Richmond this weekend.  I made a good luck bag for her trip:)

IMG_9609

Thursday

I met up with the Breakfast Club for 6 cold miles

IMG_9612

Followed by, you guessed it…breakfast:)

IMG_9613

While we were freezing our buns off, we talked about how good warm sweatpants would feel.  This happened when I got home.  Nothing like putting pajama pants on after you shower in the middle of the day!

IMG_9614

Cookie update:  I know you’re dying to know!  I haven’t had a single chocolate chip cookie this week!!!  I’ve been drinking the chocolate Shakeology for my sweet snack and I’m really proud of myself.  Luckily, I really like the taste! #thestruggleisreal

IMG_9610

Is anyone else super excited to see the Starbucks Christmas mugs on display?!!  It makes me so happy!

IMG_9616

Friday

This was our coldest day so far…

IMG_9623

My legs were stiff and it was so hard to get my butt out the door.  It definitely wasn’t an exceptional run, but sometimes it’s all about logging the miles.  Click HERE to read my Cold Weather Running Tips!

IMG_9615

Thanks to Rachel for this great reminder…

IMG_9611

Question: After that run, I went out to buy a new winter hat.  Do you call it a hat or a toboggan?  I realize that a toboggan is a sled to most, but in the south it’s a winter hat.

Do you wear makeup when you run?

Are you racing/ long run this weekend?  Share!
