Weekend Wrap-Up

I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July!

I’m pacing a fall marathon training group for Fleet Feet.  If you’re in the area, you should sign up to train with us!!  We had a really fun group for this week’s 12 miler!!

This was also Day 1 of my NYC Marathon training!

It was a super hot and humid run.  I looked like I had jumped in a pool, so this cold kiwi didn’t stand a chance when I got home!

Nothing says America, like tex-mex for lunch!

Jason and I went to downtown Franklin for their 4th of July festival.

And, we picked up a coffee and the greatest homemade oatmeal cream pie from Honest Coffee!!!

Sadly, we had big storms all night.  The local fireworks and grill-outs were cancelled.  We decided to go to Sunflower Cafe and I’m so glad we did.  Their vegan BBQ sliders were the bomb!

Sunday:

I had the gym to myself for a surprisingly good treadmill run.  My legs are still heavy from the North Fork 50 last weekend, so I stopped at 8 miles.  I’m not 100%, but grateful that my body has bounced back pretty quickly.

I met Jason at First Watch for a fruit and oats breakfast.

After rave reviews, I broke down and bought a Yeti mug.  Apparently they’re the greatest mug ever.  I’m curious to give it a try!

Kindness is magic…so is coffee.

The sun finally peaked out.  I got to enjoy our front porch while the patriotic swags were still up.

We had dinner on the Burger Up patio…salad with a quinoa patty and rose to drink.  Perfect!

How was your 4th?  Did anyone else have to cancel plans because of the rain?

Do you have any Yeti products?  Thoughts?

Are you running a fall marathon?  NYC?

Peak and Pit from the weekend?  Peak: A nice, low-key weekend!  Pit:  The rainy weather.

  1. So glad you had a nice 4th! All the yummy food pictures, make me hungry! 🙂
-Our 4th plans were pretty low key, just how we like them
-I’ve never heard of Yeti products…
-No fall marathon running here, but excited to here about your experience at NYC!
-Peak: family time Pit: Not my best long run

  2. We had nice weather for the 4th! Usually it is unbearably hot here this time of year but this summer has been surprisingly mild (knock on wood). Peak of my weekend – sleeping in on Sunday! Pit – really nothing, it was a good weekend!! Have a great Monday, Jen!

  3. I’ve never heard of Yeti products but after this comment I’m going to google them! I’m running 2 fall marathons -> Chicago & Philly and my training started this week, too!

Peak- got to spend the long weekend with all my best friends from college. Pit- leaving them 😦

  4. I’ve never heard of that mug, but now I’m interested and have to look it up! I’m curious how you’ll like it. The peak of this weekend was everything- we went to a lake house in Virginia with a bunch of family and had so much fun out on the water! I did have to work all day on Friday, so that would be a pit if I had to pick one. Can’t really complain about working when you have such an incredible view though!

  5. Jen – You will love the Yeti mug. Keeps coffee hot until the very LAST drop. I also have the koozie thing – it is AWESOME! Definitely worth the investment.
Had a great holiday weekend. Peak: Long run with all my best run buds yesterday. Pit: Raced a 5K on Sat, just not as fast as I’d hoped. Still had lots of fun with friends.
Hot and humid in Texas and I LOVE it!

  6. The rain pretty much ruined all our weekend fun except the plans on the actual 4th, so that was nice! How exciting that training for the NYC marathon has started!! Ekk! That is a bucket list race for me. I am sad that I am sad that the fall half I was planning to run actually conflicts with our fall break plans this year! So if you have any great fall half recommendations in TN in October, let me know!

    • When I’m home, I make steel-cut oatmeal. It takes a little longer, but is worth it! I usually just make it with water a top it with fresh fruit. When I’m on the go, Umpqua is my favorite instant oatmeal.

  7. I had a 50k on Sunday the 5th….So, my 4th of July consisted of going to bed at 8 PM while my husband took the kids to watch fireworks. I wish we had rain – we are surrounded by wildfires that cannot be contained, we’re in desperate need.

I’m running a Fall 50k (Priest Lake) and then a marathon in Hayden Lake, which will be my first and only marathon of the year!

Peak: hitting three trails over the weekend Pit: Falling on a treacherous rock-infested course and ended up with seriously bruised ribs

  8. I have heard such good things about Yeti products! I’m just not there yet. Even though that mug has been calling my name for quite some time now.

What’s funny though, just this morning I was having a brainstorming session with one of our marketing reps and she was saying that she keeps a Yeti cooler full of drinks in her trunk, you know since she is out on the road all day. I asked her often she has to fill it up with ice, seeing that we live in Tampa and it’s like 300 degrees out. Once a week! It stays cold and does not melt for the entire work week! What?!

  9. We had storms in the forecast here as well but, thankfully, they held off and stayed to the south of us; I hate the hear that the weather was not favorable for you, but it sounds like you and Jason made the best of it! Those veggie sliders look fantastic! Yay for marathon training!! You’re going to do great, Jen!!

  10. I just got a YETI cup as well and it is awesome! It would keep drinks cold for days I think, but the only problem is that I am usually so thirsty I drink them in 2 seconds anyway. Haha! I am coaching a fall marathon training group for the local running store in town. It is my first time doing this, and I am excited to see how it goes. We start next week. And I am also running NYC! Starting training soon for that as well. I’m pumped 🙂

  11. I, too, am curious about the Yeti mug, but you can’t close the hole in the top! That’s such a dealbreaker for me!! How has it been? I suppose if you’re less of a klutz than I am you might be able to keep it upright.
