Weekend Wrap-Up

I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July!
IMG_4251

I’m pacing a fall marathon training group for Fleet Feet.  If you’re in the area, you should sign up to train with us!!  We had a really fun group for this week’s 12 miler!!
IMG_4252

This was also Day 1 of my NYC Marathon training!
IMG_4280

It was a super hot and humid run.  I looked like I had jumped in a pool, so this cold kiwi didn’t stand a chance when I got home!
IMG_4254

Nothing says America, like tex-mex for lunch!
IMG_4255

Jason and I went to downtown Franklin for their 4th of July festival.
IMG_4257

And, we picked up a coffee and the greatest homemade oatmeal cream pie from Honest Coffee!!!
IMG_4256

Sadly, we had big storms all night.  The local fireworks and grill-outs were cancelled.  We decided to go to Sunflower Cafe and I’m so glad we did.  Their vegan BBQ sliders were the bomb!

Sunday:
IMG_4259

I had the gym to myself for a surprisingly good treadmill run.  My legs are still heavy from the North Fork 50 last weekend, so I stopped at 8 miles.  I’m not 100%, but grateful that my body has bounced back pretty quickly.
IMG_4260

I met Jason at First Watch for a fruit and oats breakfast.
IMG_4261

After rave reviews, I broke down and bought a Yeti mug.  Apparently they’re the greatest mug ever.  I’m curious to give it a try!
IMG_4262

Kindness is magic…so is coffee.
IMG_4263

The sun finally peaked out.  I got to enjoy our front porch while the patriotic swags were still up.
IMG_4279

We had dinner on the Burger Up patio…salad with a quinoa patty and rose to drink.  Perfect!
IMG_4287

How was your 4th?  Did anyone else have to cancel plans because of the rain?

Do you have any Yeti products?  Thoughts?

Are you running a fall marathon?  NYC?

Peak and Pit from the weekend?  Peak: A nice, low-key weekend!  Pit:  The rainy weather.

Welcome to the Weekend!

IMG_9211

I hope you guys have had a wonderful week!

Here’s a look at my last few days.  (Does that sound like I’m dying?)  Anyways…you get the idea!

Wednesday

I had a crepe and coffee at The Perch…

IMG_9606

with Oprah.

IMG_9603

Afterwards, I met Laurie and Malin at Percy Warner Park to run the 11.2 mile loop.  I am loving this weekly run, but it kicks my butt every time.

IMG_9607

I’ve been doing this weekly run to prepare for the Flying Monkey Marathon next weekend (that’s crazy close)!   The race director (@monkeytrent) loves to remind us that you can’t train for the Monkey.  He sent out a pic of the medal.

IMG_9608

The big story in Nashville this week was Taylor Swift’s photobomb.  She was running in Percy Warner Park (same as above), saw a family having their portraits taken, and asked if she could join in.  First, that’s super sweet of her.  Second, who looks this good while running?!

IMG_9619

Maybe I should start fixing my hair and wearing red lipstick just in case I happen upon a photo shoot.

IMG_9618

My super awesome friend, Corrie, is racing Richmond this weekend.  I made a good luck bag for her trip:)

IMG_9609

Thursday

I met up with the Breakfast Club for 6 cold miles

IMG_9612

Followed by, you guessed it…breakfast:)

IMG_9613

While we were freezing our buns off, we talked about how good warm sweatpants would feel.  This happened when I got home.  Nothing like putting pajama pants on after you shower in the middle of the day!

IMG_9614

Cookie update:  I know you’re dying to know!  I haven’t had a single chocolate chip cookie this week!!!  I’ve been drinking the chocolate Shakeology for my sweet snack and I’m really proud of myself.  Luckily, I really like the taste! #thestruggleisreal

IMG_9610

Is anyone else super excited to see the Starbucks Christmas mugs on display?!!  It makes me so happy!

IMG_9616

Friday

This was our coldest day so far…

IMG_9623

My legs were stiff and it was so hard to get my butt out the door.  It definitely wasn’t an exceptional run, but sometimes it’s all about logging the miles.  Click HERE to read my Cold Weather Running Tips!

IMG_9615

Thanks to Rachel for this great reminder…

IMG_9611

Question: After that run, I went out to buy a new winter hat.  Do you call it a hat or a toboggan?  I realize that a toboggan is a sled to most, but in the south it’s a winter hat.

Do you wear makeup when you run?

Are you racing/ long run this weekend?  Share!

Track and ASTYM

Track Tuesday:

1st day back doing speed since Chicago.  I was a little nervous and still took it easy by running my tempo pace, but I felt good!!!

Gotta love sweaty post-run pics! (It’s unseasonable warm here in TN.)

4 mile warmup

6 x 400m (400 recovery jog)

1 mile cool down

After such a grueling workout (I kid), Christi Beth needed a nap in Michael’s trunk.

IMG_8579

To celebrate Dave’s MCM and the upcoming Monumental and NYCM…we went to breakfast afterwards.  How awesome is this group?!! #mytribe

IMG_8574

This afternoon I had another PT session at ProMotion with Leah.  She did more ASTYM work on my knee.  (It’s pronounced A Stim.)

IMG_8589

What is ASTYM?

Astym® treatment is a therapy that regenerates healthy soft tissues (muscles, tendons, etc.), and eliminates or reduces unwanted scar tissue that may be causing pain or movement restrictions. Astym® treatment is highly effective and even works when other approaches routinely fail. One of the main reasons Astym® treatment is so much more effective than other treatments is that it was scientifically developed to resolve the underlying cause of soft tissue problems, rather than just trying to temporarily relieve symptoms. It is one of the most researched and effective therapy treatments available. Astym® treatment is unmatched in its ability to resolve tendinopathies, scar tissue problems, and other soft tissue dysfunctions.

Here are the tools…

And,work on my knee…

IMG_8586

It hurts a little, but it also feels really good.  ASTYM leaves some bruising, but nothing too crazy.  Leah is really helping me to recover quickly and after 3 treatments, I can already tell a big difference.

Here’s a short YouTube video tutorial about ASTYM…

Just because…

IMG_8588

Jason’s out of town so I picked up some take-out dinner…for one. Apparently, I ordered so much food that they thought it was for two :/ Runger is real.

IMG_8587

And, on a super cheesy note…I really appreciate you for taking the time to read my blog.  It means the world to me!

Have you ever had to go to PT for a running related injury?  What for?  How did you treat it?

How long after a marathon do you start speed work again?

Do you cook dinner when it’s just for one?  (Obviously I don’t)
