In the last two days, I’ve baked cookies and forgotten to take them and showed up to work a race packet pickup that isn’t until next week. I’m blaming my ‘fuzzy’ brain on peak training week for North Fork 50.
I met up with the Brentwood Breakfast Club for a great run through Sylvan Park.
And we had breakfast on the Star Bagel Cafe patio. Al (the man with the arrow) finished breakfast with us and found out that his wife had gone into labor. Don’t worry. He picked her up, made it to the hospital and now has another beautiful baby girl!!!!!
I came home and baked a new Biscoff Cloud Cookie recipe to take to the Dirtbag Trail Run and Mixer. They turned out great! Of course, I sampled one. 🙂
I had a surprise flower delivery from Jason. Aren’t they lovely?!!
I was so excited for to see everyone at the trail mixer that I forgot my cookies. 😦
BUT, I had a blast and Jason took the cookies to work.
Thanks to Jared for this great picture!! Yes, I had a big smile on my face even though they were taking pictures of our backs (blonde moment).
I came home to find a bunny on my porch!!!! I was so excited and took like 50 photos.
I’ve been tired and needed a relaxed morning. So…Jason and I slept in a little (ok it was till 5:30, but that’s still later than I usually get up), and we had crepes at The Perch!
Then, I ran 8 easy paced miles at the gym.
I tried a new-to-me fruit…a Cherimoya. You just slice it in half and spoon it out. It’s tasted like a pineapple, apple, and custard had a baby.
How awesome is this shirt from Run On Organic?
Tomorrow is the longest long run for this training season…a 5 hour trail run. I made sure to carb-up!!!
Ultra runners: Do you run for time or distance when you’re training?
What’s the craziest fruit or veggie you’ve eaten? I really want to try a durian, but I can’t find them in TN!
Do you feel like you have “mushy” brain during peak mileage weeks?
#choosejoy and Happy Weekend!
I can’t wait for you to meet the newest Dustbag, Anna Lynn. Oh, and a Panera cinnamon crunch bagel sustained me until Al decided to show up.

I run by miles. For my first 2, 50Ks, I ran by time. Now, I only run by miles. I def feel more prepared. Another thing that I did this time around for my 100K is to spend almost all of my running miles on the trail, except for Track Tuesday, of course. 🙂 I also spent a few long runs, 26+ mile runs, on a different trails to prepare my mind for the idea that my race was going to be on a ‘different’ trail.
I get mushy brain during ‘hormonal’ weeks. My mind is so scattered. If it is not written down, I will forget. I think part of this too is having to be the ‘administrator’ of 4 other busy people, plus my running self.
I have never had a crazy fruit or vegetable. Up until the recent craze, kale was my craziest. Now, it is a staple in our salads around here.
When is your race?

It’s 2 weeks for today! Thank you so much for your advice. You’re such an ultra pro! I didn’t even think about hormones…that’s a great point.

I followed a plan from the book “Relentless Forward Progress.” It’s a book that was recommended by a few well-respected ultra runners and they were right; it’s such a helpful book. Do you have it? Heard of it? It’s worth checking into for sure, maybe for next time. Enjoy that 5 hour run! While I’d be out there I’d look down at my legs and tell them “hang in there little leggies, hang in there!”

I actually just bought that book. I think it was your recommendation! I’m hoping to read it in the next couple of weeks.

That’s right! Let me know what you think. It’s one of the best ones I’ve come across, and I did a lot of research!

The cookies look awesome and the flowers are beautiful!! That is so sweet of Jason 🙂
That fruit sounds delicious… I’ve never seen that in the grocery store I don’t think! Where did you find it?

It was at whole foods. Occasionally they’ll have something I’ve never seen or heard of, so of course I have to buy it!

The strangest vegetable I’ve eaten – at least in appearance – is what they call pataste in Honduras. It’s also called chayote squash. It’s so good!

I’ve never heard of that! I’ll keep an eye out for one.

Do you use a training plan to train for your 50 miler races? When you do that 5 hour run do you take food? Do you run the whole time? Sorry for so many questions…I am just helping my husband get ready for a 50 miler in Sept. and I have never done anything more than a marathon 🙂

I’m doing the 50k for this race, but my training had been very similar to 50 mile training. Today I did 3 Gus and half a picky bar. I try to take in at least 100 calories per hour. During the race, I’ll also eat the salt potatoes and pb and j sandwiches at the aid station. Running depends on the trail. Our trails have some big climbs so we hike those and run everything else. Feel free to send any questions you have!

I really dislike the whole scatterbrained feeling! I’m someone was still able to enjoy the cookies you made!
Jason did good with the flowers! Very pretty!
I’ve never done a time-based training program, but it’s a very interesting idea. I almost feel like it could be more freeing in a sense. Is that just me…? 😉

It’s so refreshing to not worry about pace!! It’s the perfect break after training hard for Boston. And, Jason happily took the cookies to work the next day! 🙂

In Australia they have “custard apples” that look very similar. Super yummy! My favorite fruit is apricots but they’re kinda $$$.

I’m only on season 2 of Orange is the New Black, but I am addicted to that show! Your fruit shopping spree looks like my cart every week. I need to start buying actual food to eat instead of only fruit and veggies. Have a great week!

Well, I’ve never run an ultra but my ultra pals do both: some of them run for time and some for distance; I guess it just depends on your preference! I guess I’m pretty boring with my fruits and veggies, but I do love star fruit. Um, yes on the mushy brain sometimes…can I blame it on training?!? 😉

It’s been forever since I had a star fruit. I need to remedy that! When in doubt, blame the training!!!
